Gendered violence includes any behaviour, directed at, or affecting a person based on their sex, sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity, or because they do not conform to socially prescribed gender roles. Gendered violence can manifest in numerous ways within the workplace — from subtle microaggressions such as micro-invalidations, to more overt behaviours like hate speech, humiliation, sexual harassment, and physical assault.
In response to these critical findings, the Being Valued Toolkit has been developed to address these alarming statistics. This free online resource will provide practical strategies to help workplaces recognise, address and mitigate gendered violence against Victoria's growing LGBTQIA+ community within all workplaces.
The toolkit offers a step-by-step guide for workplace leaders to address and prevent gendered violence affecting LGBTQIA+ employees, customers and clients. It outlines key strategies, co-designed by LGBTQIA+ community members, to prevent and mitigate gendered violence at work. These strategies include:
The toolkit will be accompanied by practical guidebooks, policy examples, case studies and surveys, empowering workplaces to take actionable steps toward holistic LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
