To our incredible transgender, gender diverse and non-binary communities, our allies, and partners,
I’m writing to share that our wonderful Chair, Maya Agarwal, has stepped down to take a well-deserved sabbatical.
On behalf of the TGV team and the communities we serve, I want to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for Maya’s exceptional dedication and leadership. Maya has guided our organisation through a period of significant growth and change, all while consistently navigating the ongoing transphobia in society.
During her time as Chair, Maya’s impact has been immense. She has been instrumental in our operational strength and our ability to better serve TGD communities. She led significant digital systems improvements across TGV, enhancing our infrastructure to support better outcomes. Maya was at the helm when we expanded and renovated our new Affirmation Station community hub. She also oversaw a critical re-structure, including the addition of a fundraising strategist, significantly building our capacity to diversify our income streams and secure our future.
We thank Maya for her vision, her strength, and her unwavering commitment to transgender, gender diverse and non-binary communities. We wish her all the best on her sabbatical.
I am equally thrilled to announce that our current Treasurer, Benjie-Etta Norman, will be stepping into the role of TGV Chair.
Benjie is already a well-known and highly respected leader within TGV and the broader LGBTQIA+ communities. Having served as Treasurer, Benjie brings a deep understanding of our operational needs and strategic vision, and a fierce passion for empowering all transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people to live their best lives.
We are excited for this next chapter and look forward to working with Benjie to continue our mission: to work for, with, by TGD communities to achieve better social, economic and health outcomes.
Supporting your gender journey remains our focus, and with a strong board, a committed team, and your continued support, TGV will remain a vibrant, inclusive, and authentic champion for all TGD communities in Victoria.
With gratitude and excitement,
Dr. Son Vivienne
CEO, Transgender Victoria
A message from Maya:
"It’s been the honour and privilege to serve as Chair. I am deeply proud of what we achieved together – from expanding Affirmation Station to strengthening TGV’s foundation so we can meet the growing needs of our communities. My support for TGV in its mission has never been stronger, and I look forward to watching the organisation continue to thrive. I wish Benjie, an incredible leader and, dare I say, friend, all the very best as they step into this role."
A message from Benjie:
“It’s a privilege to serve as Chair of Transgender Victoria and to build on the remarkable legacy of those who shaped this organisation with courage and care. Our community’s strength lies in our diversity – every story, every identity, every journey adds to our shared richness. My commitment is to continue to strengthen our community’s voice, expand our reach, and ensure that every trans, gender diverse and non-binary person is seen, respected and fully included in our community.”
