For Trans Day of Visibility 2026, Transgender Victoria has launched a "build-your-own" pledge engine, asking allies to choose their own pledge in support of trans communities.
In the lead-up to this year’s Trans Day of Visibility (which happens on 31st March every year), the team at Transgender Victoria decided to put the “vision” in “visibility”. We stepped back from our spreadsheets and boardrooms to hone in on one vital question: "What is your trans vision?"
But one question can elicit an infinite response. As our staff traveled across the state, we spoke to hundreds of transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary people hearing their raw, honest, and optimistic dreams for the future. It confirmed what we already knew about our community: trans people are anything but a monolith.
The visions Transgender Victoria collected were as diverse as the people who wrote them. We heard from folks whose visions were deeply personal and joyful, like "dressing like Barbie 24/7".
Others were bold and systemic, calling for "free gender-affirming healthcare," safer schools for TGD youth, and more representation in parliament.
We knew we couldn't just collect these dreams and leave them on a shelf. To honour the trust our community placed in us, we needed to take these visions and turn them into practical calls to action.
The TGV team brought together a focus group of community members to help us synthesise these hundreds of handwritten cards. Together, we looked for the recurring themes; the shared heartbeats of our communities. We asked: "If these are our dreams, what practical steps do we need our allies to take to help us get there?" Through this collaborative process, we mapped out eight core actions that directly address the barriers identified by our community.
These actions are the foundation of our 2026 TDOV Pledge.
